St John the Evangelist Church is the parish church situated in the village of Hazelwood in mid-Derbyshire. It serves the local villages of Hazelwood, Shottle, Shottlegate, Blackbrook, Cowers Lane and Farnah Green. Some of our congregation also come from further afield.
We have a mixed set of services each month to cater for a variety of traditions and preferences. The normal pattern is that on the first Sunday of the month we have a traditional Book of Common Prayer communion service, on the second Sunday an afternoon (evening in summer) BCP Evensong, on the third Sunday a communion service using the modern Common Worship form and on the fourth Sunday a shorter, more informal "Worship Together" service. Details of services and times for the current month can be found by clicking on the "Times of services" button on the left. We are a happy church and visitors are always welcome at our services.
Sunday School is held in the Memorial Hall next door to the church at 11.00am on the first Sunday in the month. At the end of the session the children and teachers join the congregation for the last hymn in church. The children usually show the congregation what they have been doing in Sunday School that morning. Click on the "Sunday School" button on the left for more details.
